Potter
I grew up in Southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley and was inspired early in my life by the
wide-open vistas and towering peaks that surround the valley. I discovered clay while going to college in Oregon and it was love
at first touch. The more I worked with
clay the more I liked it and decided to try to make a living as a potter. I moved back to the San
Luis Valley
and completed my last two years of college at Adams State
in Alamosa.
I graduated from Adams
State in 1976 and moved to Howard, Colorado,
to share studio space with a friend. In
1977 I moved to Manitou Springs, Colorado, where I worked as a potter until 2000 when I
was hired to be the pottery instructor at Colorado
College in Colorado Springs. I continue to teach and produce my own work
at Colorado College.
I enjoy the interaction with students and find the college to be a very
stimulating environment.
The majority of my work is functional stoneware but for the
past few years I have been enjoying experimenting with low-fire techniques
involving sagger, raku, and horsehair firings.
